Justin Rowan is an eclectic and versatile musician from Atlanta. He has performed on stage and in master classes with the Chicago Brass QuintetBoston Brass, Spectrum Brass, The American Brass Quintet, Thomas Hooten, Robert Spano of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Michael and Christopher Martin, The Boston Symphony horn section, and members of the brass sections of the New York Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the inaugural National Brass Symposium. He also performs as lead trumpet for Spectacle Brass, and Atlanta based brass quintet of which he is a founding member. Justin is currently a performing artist for the XO Brass line of Jupiter Band Instruments.

 

During his time at Kennesaw State University, he studied with Jennifer Marotta, Thomas Hooten, Dr. Douglas Lindsey, and Karin Bliznik. While attending Kennesaw State, he was an active performer in all musical outlets and styles. He performed with the Kennesaw State Jazz Ensemble 1 as lead trumpet, in the Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble as principal trumpet, and also in numerous chamber ensembles. In 2011 Justin performed with the KSU Symphony orchestra on a concert tour of Beijing and Xian, China.

 

Justin has performed in numerous states and venues across the country. In 2014, Justin performed with the Georgia Symphony Orchestra as a featured soloist, and also continued his duties as a substitute musician in the orchestra as he has since 2011. In the summer of 2014 he attended the Bay View Music Festival andSpectrum Brass Seminar on scholarship with his colleagues in Spectacle Brass. In 2013 he studied extensively with José Sibaja and Boston Brass, and also played alongside them with the Colorado Brass Band at the Crested Butte Music Festival.  Justin also was a finalist in the 2013 Calvin Smith Brass Quintet Competition with Spectacle Brass. In 2012, he was selected as the principal trumpet of the Georgia Music Educators’ Association All-College Band. In January of 2013, he played principal trumpet in the Kennesaw State University production of Peter Gabriel’s “New Blood”, and in 2011 he performed in the same role on stage with the world renowned rock band “Kansas”.

 

Rowan is also active as an avid educator in the Atlanta Area and beyond. He works with middle and high school programs and their brass sections, and has served as a visual and brass instructor for multiple marching band programs while also maintaining a private studio. Justin has served as the Vice President and Treasurer of Kennesaw State University‘s chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).  In 2011, Justin was one of 16 men to re-charter the Nu Theta chapter of ΦMA Sinfonia at Kennesaw State, of which he has served as President, Historian, and as Officer of Alumni Relations. He represented the fraternity on a national level as Assistant Collegiate Province Representative from 2012 to 2013.
